Kilpin Hall

Kilpin Hall
Kiplin Hall, in England's beautiful Vale of Mowbray, was built in the 1620s for George Calvert, Secretary of State to James I, later 1st Lord Baltimore and founder of Maryland, USA. Its design was unique in Jacobean architecture, with central domed towers on each side of a tall symmetrical pavilion in mellow red brick.

Richmond Castle

With its breathtaking views of the Yorkshire Dales, Richmond Castle fully deserves its place as one of the finest tourist attractions in North Yorkshire. The castle was originally built to subdue the unruly North of England it is one of the greatest Norman fortresses in Britain.

Although roofless, extensive remains of the fortified palace still survive, making Middleham a fascinating castle to explore.

Bolton Castle

Bolton Castle
Bolton is one of the country's best preserved medieval castles, situated in the heart of Wensleydale with stunning views over the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Completed in 1399 by Richard le Scrope, Chancellor of England to Richard II, its scars bear testament to over 600 years of fascinating history including involvement in the Pilgrimage of Grace, Mary Queen of Scots imprisonment and a Civil War siege. The castle has never been sold and remains in the private ownership of Lord Bolton, Sir Richard le Scrope’s direct descendant.

Wensleydale Railway

Wensleydale railway
The Wensleydale Railway is an authentic heritage railway serving the local community, offering tourists, families and transport enthusiasts a great value day out in the Yorkshire Dales with lots to see and do along the way. We have preserved 22 miles of the former line from Northallerton to Garsdale that opened to passengers in full in 1878. Timetabled services run over the 16 miles from Leeming Bar to Redmire (for Bolton Castle) and we are actively working to restore the full length of the line as part of our historic rail and transport experience.
